Councilor Cameron’s recent op-ed began by noting the impact to Golden residents from the forest fire smoke, but then went on to conflate that with oil and gas production operations when he said that Golden residents are being impacted by emissions from oil and gas wells. This in spite of the nearest wells being nearly 20 miles to the northeast and with Golden’s prevailing winds out of the northwest, that could not possibly transport minute concentrations of air contaminants that distance to Golden.

Call me old fashioned, but when someone draws science-related conclusions, I would like to see the data they relied on. I contacted the Councilor to request a copy of the data, and he did not supply any data. I realized later that my request could have been improper. After all, there may be special rules I am ignorant about that grant elected officials dispensation from needing to have data to support their proposed regulations. The public should simply accept his proposal because he thinks it’s a good idea.
