Rob Hanna, the executive director of the South Suburban Parks and Recreation District, has resigned from his role.

During a virtual special meeting on Feb. 4, Board Chair Pam Eller announced the resignation of Hanna, who was not present at the meeting, according to a recording of the meeting.

“The board has been advised of the resignation of our executive director, Rob Hanna, due to health issues,” Eller said during the meeting. “This was unexpected, and I think I speak for the entire board when I say he will be missed.”

The agenda for the meeting only included one item, which was the “resignation of executive director and related agreement.”

Hanna’s resignation went into effect at 5 p.m. on Feb. 5, district spokesperson Becky Grubb said.

During the meeting, the board voted to give Hanna the terms of the resignation agreement, including pay equal to six months of his salary and continued medical coverage for a maximum of one year.

During the meeting, Board member Ken Lucas said Hanna has volunteered to help the district during the leadership transition.

The executive director’s role involves implementing policies adopted by the Board of Directors. The district has “begun the process of identifying new leadership,” according to a press release from the district, but no further details on what that process looks like were provided. The Board of Directors will be in charge of selecting Hanna’s replacement, Grubb said.

Board member Pete Barrett said Hanna has “made an impact on South Suburban — but also broader than that, an impact on the entire residents of South Suburban.”

“We’ve added facilities, we’ve added access to facilities and we’ve achieved, consistently, excellence,” he said. “He leaves here with a wonderful record of achievement in those areas.”
